Monday 31st May 2010 For our annual fundraising event we decided
to host a Quiz Night, Beetle Drive
and Silent Auction.
The evening was a great success with 14
teams taking part in the quiz and 85 people competing in the beetle drive; we
also had a dozen items up for bidding in the Silent Auction – our thanks to
everyone who donated items.
A total of £ 520.00
was raised towards Company funds – a great big thank you to everyone from the
Company, friends, family and members of the Church Congregation that supported
us – it is very much appreciated.-----ooooo----- Monday 31st May 2010 (updated 02/07/10) The Boys’ Brigade session came to a close
earlier this month with our Annual Display and Parent’s Night taking place on
the 14th May.
This year our Chief Guests were Brian
Irvine and his wife Donna. Brian is a well known face around the Highlands,
having finished his football career at Ross County
and now being involved with Youth Inclusive.
In his remarks, Brian commented how
important the Boys’ Brigade was to him as he grew up and progressed in his
football career, in particular, the discipline that was instilled. He also told
everyone how important his faith was throughout his life.
An evening of fun and games was enjoyed by
parents and friends; the Anchor Boys and Junior Section took part in some
games, marching and singing. Company Section scared the wits out of the parents
during their gymnastics display and some new drill movements were on show in
our version of “Strictly Come Marching” – thanks to Eddie Adie, Colin Baillie
and Stewart McDonald for judging the teams.
It was decided that the collection from
Parent’s Night would go towards St. Mary’s Hospice in Malawi; the grand total of £203.74
was raised and a cheque was presented to Chrisanne Macleod at the Quiz Night.
The Company Section had a new trophy to
present this year – the Squad Trophy was donated by the Russell and Fraser
families in memory of Gordon Russell who was an Officer in the Company for many
years. It was great that Morag was with us to present the trophy to the winning
squad.
Once again the highlight of the evening was
the presentation of the 2 highest awards available to boys in the Company.
This year Callum Urie was awarded the
Queen’s Badge; Andrew Ross, Craig Black and Robbie Fyfe gained their
President’s Badges.

This year the Battalion decided to try something different
for fund-raising instead of the usual Flag Day by asking for Boys and
Staff to
take part in the Half Marathon Fun Run [5K] on Sunday 14th
March
2010.
Pictured
above are some of the Boys and Staff of the Company
before the Fun Run started.

The Company was once
again asked to man a water station for
the Half Marathon on the same day.

Friday 12th February 2010
Last
year the Company collected
nearly 11,000 Tesco for Schools and Clubs vouchers. Our aim was to
raise enough
to order a new crash mat for gymnastics.
It
seems some time ago that we
pleaded with the Congregation to donate their vouchers to us but we
made our
target and beyond.
Our
new crash mat was finally
delivered at the end of January and was first used on the 5th
February.
We
also ordered some games and
sports equipment for the Anchor Boys and Junior Sections.
Pictured
above are the Boys of
the Company getting ready to use the mat for the first time.
We
would like to thank everybody
in the Congregation that donated the vouchers to us – it is very much
appreciated.
